Item No.: 1707
Name: A Jun ware flowerpot with a blue glaze and purplish-red splashes
Period: Song dynasty
Height: 18.8 cm
A flowerpot is designed to be seen together with the plant it contains. Here, a blue ground and purplish-red splashes create a striking contrast across the glazed surface. Even without a plant, the vessel has an independent visual presence, demonstrating how a container for cultivation can also contribute to the appearance of an interior or garden.
