1013 A famille rose brush pot with pomegranates and flowers

Item No.: 1013

Name: A famille rose brush pot with pomegranates and flowers
Period: Qing dynasty, Yongzheng reign
Rim diameter: 17.5 cm

The cylindrical brush pot narrows slightly at the waist and has a flat base with a bi-disc-shaped foot. Against the white glaze, a heavily laden pomegranate tree is painted in strong dark tones, emphasizing its gnarled old trunk. Chrysanthemums, herbaceous peonies, crabapple blossoms, and other flowers in paler famille rose colors provide a softer accompaniment. The contrast gives the composition both strength and delicacy.
