Item No.: 1037
Name: A famille rose water-chestnut-shaped vase with blessings and longevity motifs
Period: Qing dynasty, Jiaqing reign
Height: 40.4 cm
The form follows a type introduced during the Kangxi reign, with an everted mouth, long neck, sloping shoulders, and rounded body. Here the scale is increased to enhance its presence as a display piece. Bats, peaches of longevity, colored ribbons, and circular shou characters appear against the white glaze, expressing wishes for blessings and longevity across generations.
The body is fine and white, and the glaze has a soft luster. Stronger colors emphasize the bats and prominent longevity medallions, while paler tones distinguish the supporting ribbons and foliage. This variation creates depth and balance, allowing rich ornament to remain graceful rather than visually crowded.
