Item No.: 1209
Name: A large octagonal blue-and-white and famille rose vase symbolizing auspicious abundance
Period: Qing dynasty, Qianlong reign
Height: 44.0 cm
The museum’s earlier English entry compares this vase in style, form, and size with a related example sold at Sotheby’s in 2015, as described on Alain R. Truong’s website.
That comparison describes an octagonal body, angled shoulders, a waisted neck, gilt rim, and flaring foot. Carved fish, a musical chime, and lotus scrolls ornament the celadon-glazed neck, flanked by gilt handles. Four peach-shaped panels show children playing with lanterns, flowers, firecrackers, a halberd with a ruyi ornament, and quails. Scrolling lotus in underglaze blue fills the surrounding white ground, with gilt highlights. The interior and base are turquoise, and the base bears a six-character seal mark picked out in gold. These details belong to the cited comparative description.
