Item#: 1733
Name: A Jian conical tea bowl with indented groove beneath the rim
Size: 12.7 CM diam. (up)
Date: Song Dynasty
An open rim and tapering body draw attention to the interior of this tea bowl, where markings in the dark glaze provide its main visual interest. The collection also notes an indented groove beneath the rim. Considered as a vessel for tea, it encourages close observation of rim, interior, and glaze, connecting the experience of handling an object with that of looking at it.
